This week's favorite web teaching resource!
The happyscientist.com is a website that LVS purchases a subscription for families to use as a resource and a fun learning tool to engage students in the area of science! There are discussions, videos, experiments, scientific pictures of the day, and much more. The username for our school account is: LVS The password for our school account is: LVS Easy to remember! As always, please do not allow your child to ever search the internet without parental controls as well as parental supervision.
Teachable Moment Idea - Compare and Contrast
Make a list of the years each of your family members were born. Have your student list the years in order from oldest to youngest. Make it more challenging by including birth years of cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Write only the years on the list so that your student does not take a short cut by ordering the people (whose ages he or she relatively knows) instead of ordering the numbers.
Knowing Math Facts Helps Make Math Easier!
Math concepts start getting more difficult as your child gets older. Knowing their facts and being able to recall them quickly will help them A LOT as they move ahead in math. Here is a fun way to practice: Have your child roll dice and add the two numbers quickly. Do that for 15 minutes each day. You can also practice multiplication.
NEW FAMILY HELP!
Novel Choices within Literature
Within the K12 Literature course in grades 3-8, students are expected to choose 3-4 novels a year that are placed within the Literature course - you will see this listed as "You need to select a novel" within your OLS. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to have some ownership in their learning and what a wonderful place to have it - within their reading for the year.
History and Reading Notebooks
These are simply spiral notebooks used to record learning taking place in these courses.
